Today’s reading: Matthew 22:37-40
When the incredible day comes that you stand before God, won’t it be wonderful to hear Him say, “Well done my good and faithful servant!” But what does it mean to “finish life well for the Lord?”
The key to finishing well can be found in the answer Jesus gave to a lawyer who questioned Him regarding what was the greatest commandment. He quoted Scripture, calling us to love God with all our heart, soul and mind, and then to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Based on these verses here is my definition of finishing life well for the Lord:
To finish life in right relationship to my God, spouse, family, fellow man and the work He gave me to do.
To live a life like this can seem rather daunting. But with God’s help it can be done.
Here are three defining words that describe a life that finishes well:
- Integrity—Honoring my vows to the Lord and to others for life.
- Courage—Resolving to do whatever it takes to live with integrity.
- Reward—Experiencing the benefits that come from living with integrity and courage.
