Today’s reading: 2 Timothy 2:1-13
As part of his instructional letter to Timothy, Paul urges Timothy to stay focused on and diligent in his work for God, urging and charging him to be a “good soldier.” Paul then uses the examples of an athlete and a farmer to further highlight the directive of living rightly and fully devoted to Christ.
One of the things I like about these verses is the familiar imagery and examples Paul uses to help Timothy (and us) have a better understanding of what God desires for us as we live for Him. As I’m sure they did for Timothy, Paul’s words encouraged and motivated me. When I finished reading this passage my immediate thought was: “I want to be the best worker (soldier) for God possible!”
What’s one thing about serving God that stood out to you from this passage? Do you think of yourself as being a “soldier” for God? What does being a “good soldier” mean for you personally? Tami
