William Thomas was a Welshman who one night after working as a door-to-door salesman of fish, sat in the local pub drinking himself drunk before heading home. One of the men at the next table was joking about hearing a preacher named Martyn Lloyd-Jones the previous Sunday who said nobody was hopeless. There is hope for everybody.

Thomas suddenly found himself to be sober. He thought to himself, If there’s hope for everybody, there’s hope for me. He decided to go to and hear Lloyd-Jones preach the following Sunday so he could find out what this hope was about.
