No corrupted word comes out of your mouth, but only one that is good for the necessary building.
It’s right there on page 64. A foul word that appears in a children’s book called The Canning Season, along with a few other profanity and obscene expressions. And this is not just a dark book for kids. The Canning Season received a gleaming review by The New York Times, and in 2003 was awarded the National Book Prize for Youth Literature.
Is there anything more out of place than swear words in a children’s book?
Yes. The swear words in the mouth of someone who claims to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible warns that we can sadden the Holy Spirit with the words that we say. Paul wrote that we must avoid all foul language, foolish talk, and vulgar jokes. Our mouth should rather be full of thanksgiving (Ephesians 5: 4-5).
Have you allowed a few foolish words to enter your vocabulary? Have you become accustomed to hearing profanity on television, in novels, and, yes, even on today’s children’s entertainment shows? Rededicate yourself to obedience in this matter, and don’t let any corrupt communication come from your mouth.
