God Knows … When I Wish Something Better – Part 2
You will remember that Jesus made a promise to his friends just before he returned to heaven. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house there are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; therefore I am going to prepare a place for you. I will go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and I will take you to myself, so that where I am, you may also be. “
(John 14: 1-3)
Years later, on the Isle of Patmos, John was able to see those dwellings in a vision that God gave him. He described the city as best he could. “I saw a new heaven and a new earth …… I saw the holy city, coming down from heaven, arranged as a bride adorned for her husband,” he wrote. “And the one who sat on the throne said: ‘Behold, I am making all things new.'” The light of the new Jerusalem “was like that of a jasper stone, diaphanous, like crystal ….. ..and the city was made of pure gold, like clean glass and the foundations of the city wall were adorned with all precious stones ….. The twelve gates were twelve pearls ….. And the street of the city It was made of pure gold …. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates it …
Heaven is a real place for real people. Are you interested? There we will not run out of time to do what we enjoy. Therefore, we will never get bored. Paul quoted Isaiah when he wrote, “Things which the eye has not seen, nor has the ear heard, nor have come up into the heart of man, are those that God has prepared for those who love him. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to talk with Paul and with Jesus himself? And with many other loved ones throughout the history of the World.
God’s last invitation in the Bible is found in Revelation 22:17: “Let him who is thirsty come, and whoever wants to take the water of life freely.”
If we thirst for something better, if we want to enter through the gates of the holy city and eat from the Tree of Life, we will say Yes to God’s invitation. “Jesus, I decide to be Yours today. Come and live Your life in me.” If Christ lives in us, our minds will be open to thoughts of pure love. Our hands will serve with love. The character of Jesus will be our character.
