The Holy Spirit’s Fruitfulness
Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
Paul introduced the conclusion of the matter. He helped Christians to consider their good testimony. It could be ruined over a Christian liberty they used if it harmed another brother in Christ. That is not acceptable before God, and it could stain their character––fully and completely.
The key to our Christian walk is righteousness––not unrighteousness. We need to act righteously, doing what is right and before a holy God. Then we can enjoy the fruits of peace and joy. Without righteousness, we cannot. Honestly, true joy and peace is amazing––a person can sleep at night with the peace of God. There is no guilt about anything they have done.
Remember, we are not saved by what we eat! The kingdom of God is not about food, but about righteousness. Our salvation is through His righteousness, by faith. As we live in obedience, we can have peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. We look forward to be in heaven for all eternity!
Honestly, if someone is a vegetarian, do not try to convince them to be a meat-eater. People just want to see Christ in your life:
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma (Ephesians 5:1-2).
Christians need to build each other up in the faith and pray for each other. If there is anyone you have offended over these issues, then go back and tell them you are sorry. Understand, when a Christian acts in righteousness, they are pleasing God and approved by men. Are you living a life pleasing to God?
Whereas obedience is righteousness in relation to God, love is righteousness in relation to others.
