Cadano le foglie

Cantiere poesia

FALL, LEAVES, FALL

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day.

§

Cadano le foglie cadano muoiano i fiori
lunghe le notti e brevi i giorni
mi parla di felicità ogni foglia
fluttuando dagli alberi d’autunno
sorriderò quando ghirlande di neve
fioriranno dove un tempo era la rosa
canterò quando una notte morente
incalza un più tetro giorno.
