Communication Through Rock Art

Communication Through Rock Art

Genesis 11: 8-9
“Thus the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city. For this reason its name was called Babel, because there Jehovah confused the language of all the earth, and from there he scattered them over the face of all the earth. “

In another Moments of Creation program, we discussed the use of colored crayons made in rock art. There is no doubt that rock art is a fascinating subject and well deserves further consideration. A recent scientific article asked the question “Did humans speak through rock art?” Evolutionists are beginning to wonder if any rock art is an example of fossilized language. Unlike biblical creationists, who understand the significance of the Babel incident, evolutionists do not have a clear explanation of what is understood as the evolution of language. Therefore, the aforementioned study has begun to examine whether some examples of rock art express abstract concepts that could lead to the use of similar concepts in spoken language.

The long-term timeline of the rock art is also subject to reassessment based on any future discoveries. If rock art is involved in the development of human language, finding and properly dating the oldest known drawings would help us locate the origins of language in human history, which may have happened quite early in our development.

The problem with evolutionists who study rock art too closely is that they probably see images they don’t want to see. Certainly, there are images and petroglyphs from around the world depicting animals, which evolutionists assume were extinct before the appearance of humans. Sometimes the language of rock art is more obvious than evolutionists like. The artists are saying that they have seen dinosaurs, pteranodons, etc. Biblical creationists have no problem understanding such art, but such images are inconvenient for the evolutionist.

Prayer: Father, thank you that you never left us without testimony. Thank you that so many strange things from the past become clear when we approach them from a biblical perspective. Amen.
