The Biblical Way – January 3

Read  Genesis 7

In today’s reading:

Noah and his family, the seven pairs of clean animals and a couple that was not clean of all living creatures that entered the ark, just as “as God commanded” (Genesis 7: 2,9,16); the great world flood; the rainbow pact

” D then Ijo Lord Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark” (Genesis 7: 1). Noah was able to save his family and preserve humanity because his faith in the Word that God had spoken led him to build the ark. During the many years it took to build the ark, he was also known as a “herald of righteousness” to an ungodly world (II Peter 2: 5). This illustrates the truth of the New Testament that tells us, “so also faith without works is dead” (meaningless) (James 2:26). The ark was a refuge and a protection from an inevitable death; he was a type (a shadow) of Christ, who provides a spiritual refuge for believers. Christ, our spiritual Ark, is calling those who are lost today:Come to me, all of you. . . and I will give you rest ” (Matthew 11:28).

For Noah and his family, the day came, before the worldwide flood, when God told them to enter the ark, “and the Lord closed the door on him” (Genesis 7:16). This reminds us that «. . . behold, now is the day of salvation ” (II Corinthians 6: 2). All who wait for a more suitable day or time to be saved need to realize that no one knows the day their door will close, losing that opportunity forever. “Watch therefore, for you do not know the day or the hour when the Son of Man is coming” (Matthew 25:13).

Just as Noah could rest inside the ark, protected from the waters of death, so we too can be safe in that spiritual rest, then «. . . your life is hidden with Christ in God ” (Colossians 3: 3). As soon as Noah stood again on dry ground, “Noah built an altar to Jehovah. . . and offered a burnt offering on the altar ” (Genesis 8:20). Obedience in faith and worship of God go hand in hand. Just as God did not give Noah an exact day when the worldwide flood was to come, neither do we know the day of the second coming of our Lord.

“But as in the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Because in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away, so will the coming also be of the Son of Man. . . . Therefore, you also be prepared ” (Matthew 24: 36-39,44).

Thought for today:We do not know the day that our lives will end – we must be prepared.
