Also there was Ana, daughter of Fanuel, of the tribe of Asher. Ana was a very old prophetess… She never left the temple, but day and night she worshiped God with fasting and prayers. At that very moment, Hannah appeared, thanking God and speaking about the child to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem (Luke 2: 36-38).

I love Ana’s character. She reminds me of many friends, older women who serve God in silence, praying and worshiping, but without making a lot of noise, because that is normal for them. However, when Hannah saw the baby Jesus for the first time, she began to talk about him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem!

Ana knew those people. He saw them every time they entered and left the temple, and he often spoke and prayed with them. Many times they had spoken of God’s promise to send a Savior. They were waiting for Jesus.

So when the baby Jesus arrives at the temple, Hannah is overjoyed and runs off to tell her friends the good news: God had kept his promise and sent a Savior to Jerusalem and to the whole world.

Today that good news has reached many, many people, including you. Think about what God has done for you: He has brought you out of the darkness, forgiven your sins, rescued you from the power of the devil, and promised you eternal life instead of death. All these things are yours thanks to the redeemer Jesus.

Surely you have family, friends, and neighbors who need to receive these same blessings. In this new year, ask the Lord to give you the opportunity and the ability to share with them the good news of Jesus.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, you have blessed me much with your love. I ask that you bring [ name of family member or friend ] to faith in you. Amen.
