John 1: 6-8
“6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light, he came only as a witness to the light.”
John the Baptist was sent from God to be a forerunner of Jesus. He was a cousin of Jesus because his mother, Elizabeth, and Jesus’ mother, Mary were cousins. John the Baptist was the voice who announced the arrival of Jesus. John 1: 23, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the LORD”. The capitalized LORD is the tetragrammaton YHWH. John testified Jesus as the Son of God, John 1:34, and the Lamb of God, John 1: 29, 36. John the Baptist was not the Christ, John 1:20. He was the witness, the voice, and the messenger. Jesus is the CHRIST, the WORD, and the MESSAGE.
Heavenly Father, Your Word is active and living, sharper than any two-edged sword, able to penetrate and divide the soul and spirit, joints and marrow, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
John 1: 9-13
“9The true light that gives life to everyone was coming into the world. 10He was in the world and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who receive him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision, or of a husband’s will but born of God.”
Jesus, the true light, came to the world 2000 years ago through His incarnation. John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us”. Even though He created the world, the world did not even notice Him when he came. Even His people, the Israelites rejected Him. But here is the good news. He gives the right to everyone who will receive and believe in His name to become God’s children through a spiritual regeneration or rebirth. John 1:13, Message, these are ‘’ the God begotten people, not blood begotten, not flesh begotten, and not sex begotten’’. John 3:3, “very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again”. John 3: 5, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” 2 Cor 5:17, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come.”
Thank You for giving us the gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your promise that whoever believes in You will never be hungry or thirsty because You are the Bread of Life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
