John 1: 4-5
‘’4, In Him was life and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it”.
Three different Greek words, Zoe, bios, and psuche are translated as “life” into English.
The Greek word for life in John 1: 4-5 is Zoe. Zoe is the divine God-given, eternal life. Jesus is the source of zoe life.
John 10:10, I have come that they may have life (zoe) and have it to the full.
John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life (zoe) .
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (zoe).
John 5: 24, very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life (zoe) and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life (zoe).
John 10:11, I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life (psuche) for the sheep.
John 15:13, greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life (psuche) for his friends.
Luke 8:14, “the seed that fell among the thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by life’s (bios) worries, riches, and pleasures, and they do not mature”.
Jesus is the true light that gives life (zoe) to the world. John 8: 12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life (zoe ).”
The world could not extinguish the light of Jesus. 2 Cor 4:6, For God who said, “Let light shines out of darkness”, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the gift of eternal life. Please will help us be the salt and light of the world, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
