Daily Devotion from John, Day 6 and 7

Day 6

John 1: 14

“14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father full of grace and truth”.

“The Word became flesh.”

Jesus took on human flesh and became a human being through the incarnation. God became human to be the savior of mankind. God sent His only begotten Son into the world to give us the salvation that we do not deserve. Jesus of Nazareth stepped out from eternity into human history. Our calendar AD and BC is according to His birth.

“Made his dwelling among us.”

The Greek word for ‘dwelling’ is the ‘tabernacle’. The Word ‘tabernacled’ among us. The tabernacle and later the temple was the earthly dwelling place of Yahweh. The tabernacle was a foreshadow of Jesus Christ. Jesus, Immanuel, is the presence of God in our midst. Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

“We have seen his glory”.

The apostle John saw the glory of Jesus. John was a very reliable eye witness of Jesus’ glory. John and Jesus were cousins because John’s mother, Salome, and Jesus’ mother, Mary, were sisters.

“God’s only begotten Son came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth”.

Jesus is the embodiment of Grace and Truth. Jesus is full of Grace and Truth. The Hebrew word for Grace and Truth is ‘Hesed’ and ‘Emet’, which means Unfailing Love and Faithfulness. The NLT translators used Unfailing Love and Faithfulness instead of Grace and Truth.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for stepping out of time into human history. Thank You for the gift of Yourself coming to us in Grace and Truth. Thank You for tabernacling among us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 7

John 1: 16-18

‘’16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and in closest relationship with The Father, has made him known”.

Jesus is full of grace, and from that fullness, we received an endless supply of grace, superabundant grace, overflowing grace, grace on top of grace, favor on top of favor, and spiritual blessing on top of spiritual blessing.

The law was given through Moses. Grace and Truth is Jesus personified. Jesus is superior to Moses. Law is replaced by Grace and Truth. Moses is sent by God. Jesus is God. The law is a mirror to reveal sin. Grace and Truth forgives sin and provides salvation.

Jesus is a message from God in a language that we can understand. Jesus is the exact image of the invisible God, Colossians 1:15. The radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, Hebrews 1: 3. To see Jesus is to see God.
