WRITING:

Romans 13: 1: “Let everyone submit to superior AUTHORITIES; because there is no AUTHORITY except on the part of God, and those that exist have been established by God. “

BIBLICAL TREASURE:

Our generation does not like the word AUTHORITY. We don’t like being under someone. We put out our chests and we say we were born free. And if you are from the generation of the fifties and sixties, you come from a generation that is against authority figures. In your life, you have been through Barbie doll, pop psychology, Dr. Spock, the Beatles. All of that was against authority! The fathers were represented as macho, racist, despotic men. Preachers as charlatans. The hymn to sing was: “Do your thing. If you like it, do it. ” Many of us dare not realize the vestiges of rebellion that still lie hidden in our hearts.

Who is on the throne of your life today?

Exodus 4

Aaron is appointed to help Moses.

INSIGHT

God does not need any one of us. He wants us and He would like to use us, but God does not need us. Take away one person, and the work of God is not diminished — it goes on.

When God calls us to a ministry, it is for our benefit. If we are unwilling or impure, He can get the work done through someone else. We must realize that everything God asks of us is ultimately for our benefit — even serving Him. Moses is a good example of that fact.

PRAYER

· Offer the Lord your praise for His goodness through the words of this psalm:

Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Give to the Lord glory and strength.
Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
Tremble before Him, all the earth
(1 Chronicles 16:28-30).

· Now pray this confession to the Lord to keep your life free from sin and in fellowship with Him:

You, even You, are He who blots out my
transgressions for Your own sake;
And You will not remember my sins
(based on Isaiah 43:25).

· Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind. As you agree with God’s will, voice your affirmation of His Word:

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified (Romans 8:28-30).

· As you make your requests known to the Lord, pray for:
· your development of an eternal perspective,
· needs of work or school mates,
· today’s activities.

· Now offer this prayer of worship to the Lord:

May we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen

How You Can Avoid Burnout at Work

January 29

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.”

Exodus 20:8-10

I read a study awhile back that said 62% of American workers indicate they have, at some point, experienced burnout from being overworked at their jobs. Now, burnout is usually a symptom of being overwhelmed – so much that you give up on trying to get ahead and just want to quit.

Today in America and all over the globe, people are overworked and underrested. That’s because we live in a pressure-cooker society that demands more and more from our workers and is less and less concerned with giving them rest. But God knew people needed rest… which is why He mandated a day of rest when He gave the Law in the Old Testament.

When we look at how God rested on the seventh day of creation (Genesis 2:2-3), and how He gave Israel the commandment to rest on the seventh day in the Old Testament, the logical conclusion is that God created us not to toil every day of the week, but to set aside a day to rest.

Maybe today, you’re feeling overwhelmed because you’re overworked. Perhaps you’re reading right now and wondering, “How can I rest when there’s so much for me to do?” Start small and dedicate a period every week to resting and rejuvinating yourself. When you do, you’ll find you’re much more effective at work and much less prone to burning out!

SET ASIDE TIME WEEKLY TO REST AND RECUPERATE AND YOU’LL AVOID BECOMING OVERWORKED AND BURNED OUT.

Do You Fear Being Lonely?

… For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5b

This is one of the most encouraging verses in all the Bible. Greek scholars tell us this sentence, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee,” actually has five negatives in it. Now we say a double negative is bad English, but evidently it wasn’t bad Greek. In the Amplified Version it reads: “I will never, no not ever, no never leave you nor forsake you.” Now friend, that will take the fear out of the future. Nothing can separate you from the love of God.

A preacher was visiting a grandmother in his church, trying to comfort her in her old age. I believe she knew the Lord better than he did, however.  He took out his Greek New Testament and was reading this verse to her, explaining there were five negatives there. The grandma said, “Well, God may have to say it five times for you Greek boys, but once is enough for me.”

We fear because we’re afraid we’re going to have to face something we don’t understand, and we’ll have to face it alone. God wants us to walk in faith, not fear, because He is always with us—He dwells within us!

Do you fear being forsaken, lonely? Most of us do. Yet we have the companionship of His presence. We fear our friends will leave us. Psychiatrists say the greatest need we have on earth is not material but the ability to love and be loved. The Lord has said, “I will never leave you.” Do you believe that promise? God speaking to you. Are you listening? It would be a good idea to commit Hebrews 13:5 to memory this week.
