The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
Do you know God’s love? He loves you with an everlasting love, a love that never ends. God freely gives His love to you. God’s love is unconditional. He cares about you. It is important to understand that in the Bible, there are four types of love found. They are communicated to us through four, different, Greek words: Eros, storge, philia and agape. The first Greek word eros is a physical, sexual love; storge relates to family love; philia is a brotherly love, and God’s divine agape love is a perfect and unconditional love.
The Apostle John revealed God’s divine character when he stated, for God is love (1 John 4:8). The Apostle Paul has helped us to always consider that nothing can separate us from God’s love:
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).
Paul has also caused us to reflect on God’s great love in action:
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)… (Ephesians 2:4-5).
Jesus demonstrated His great love for us when He died on the Cross for our sins: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Man’s love may fail, but God’s love never fails (1 Corinthians 13). When God’s love draws you to Himself, do not resist; surrender your life to Him. You need God’s love in your life. This Valentine’s Day, I hope you come to know the everlasting love of God personally.
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
