John , Day 51

Heavenly Father, we pray for opening of spiritual eyes and transformation of world view, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

John 14: 1-14, upper room discourse, part 3, the Way, Truth, and Life, the 6th I AM.

VV1-4, 1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus assured His disciples not to be troubled but to believe in Him. Jesus promised that He will come back to take Christians to heaven with Him in the rapture. 1 Thess 4:16-17, “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever”.

V 5-9, 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” 9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

“I AM the way, the truth”, and the life” is the 6th “I AM”. Jesus is the gateway to God. If you want see God, look at Jesus. If you want know what God is like, get to know Jesus. Colossians 1:15 a, “The Son is the image of the invisible God”. Hebrews 1:3 a, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being”.

VV 10-13, 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

John 1:1, “the Word was with God and the Word was God”. The Father and Jesus is identical in every way but yet they are two distinct personalities. The Father is the first person of the Holy Trinity. Jesus is the second person of the Holy Trinity. The Father is God and Jesus is God, but the Father is not Jesus and Jesus is not the Father.

12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

After Jesus’ glorification, He will send the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity, to enable Christians to do greater works than Him. Jesus will do whatever the disciples, and us, ask in His name through prayer.

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior is the way, the truth, and the life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
