Introduction to John:
John 1: 1
“In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Jesus is the WORD. In Greek, WORD is ’‘Logos’’, which means speech, word, reason, or message. The “word” of the LORD is the message of the Lord. Zechariah 4:6, “this is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, “not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit”, says the LORD Almighty.” Jesus is God’s message to us. This message was with God, and this message was God. Rev 19: 13, Jesus is the ”Word of God.”
“In the beginning was the Word” in Greek is ‘’Ein Arche Ho logos’’. Compare Genesis 1: 1. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” The WORD preexisted before creation, before time, before space, and before matter. The WORD is pre-existent, self-existent, eternal, was never created, had no beginning and no end.
“The Word was with God, and the Word was God”. Jesus, the WORD, was in a face to face relationship with the Father. Jesus and the Father are the two personalities of the Trinity, co-existent, co-equal, co-divine, identical in essence and substance. The Holy Spirit will enter into the scene in John 14 and 16.
Heavenly Father, Your Word is “alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
